On Friday, May 17, 2019, the Pittsburg Police Department received a report of a sexual assault incident that occurred earlier in the week, on Sunday, May 12th. The victim, a 19-year-old female, reported being forcibly sexually assaulted by her boyfriend, 20-year-old Joshua E. Caswell, of Pittsburg. The victim was seven months pregnant at the time of the assault. Investigators began following up on this incident, during which the victim disclosed another sexual assault incident involving Caswell, which had previously occurred on Saturday, November 10, 2018.
After the May 12th incident, the victim applied for a protection from abuse order against Caswell. Investigators learned that on Friday, May 24, 2019, Caswell violated the conditions of the protection order by attempting to contact the victim after he had been served notice of the order.
On Wednesday morning, investigators located Caswell and took him into custody without incident on a probable cause arrest. Caswell was arrested for two counts of rape, one count of aggravated criminal sodomy and one count of violation of a protective order. Caswell was transported to the jail at the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office for booking, and is being held in lieu of a $202,000 bond.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time.
