Medical marijuana may now be legal in Missouri but two Joplin hospitals won't be prescribing it to patients.
Both Freeman and Mercy will prevent doctors from recommending it for treatment.
Freeman states that since marijuana is still illegal in the eyes of the federal government, they will follow those regulations.
Mercy says there is insufficient medical and scientific research on the benefits and risks of cannabis products as part of medical treatment.
Both also noted that the FDA has yet to determine the safety or effectiveness of it.
