The National Weather Service in Springfield has determined that the tornado that caused significant damage to numerous homes in the Briarbrook area of Carl Junction was an EF-3. This means it had estimated peak wind speeds of 140 mph. It was on the ground for 9 miles after starting two miles north-northeast of Galena.

Fortunately there were no injuries or fatalities with this tornado.

Governor Mike Parson visited the area Thursday saying that the state will do what it can to provide the resources to get the area back on its feet. He says he was impressed with how people came together in each other's time of need.
