Wichita police: 9-year-old boy dies in accidental shooting

(AP) Wichita police say a 9-year-old boy died in an accidental shooting at a mobile home park.

Police spokesman Charley Davidson says five juveniles between the ages of 9 and 16 were at the home when the shooting occurred Monday morning.

Davidson says investigators determined the 9-year-old old was visiting an 11-year-old friend who lived at the home. He says the two boys were able to open a gun safe in a bedroom and began playing with guns inside.

Investigators believe the 11-year-old was playing with a gun when it discharged.

Davidson says the investigation is continuing and the case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
