Fatal Crash Claims Life of Miami Man

A Miami man was killed in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 44 Sunday evening. Just before 6 p.m., the Joplin Police Department responded to mile marker 2.4 on I-44 westbound where a truck had left the roadway and struck the center guardrail. The driver, 37-year-old Bruce Smith of Miami, Oklahoma, suffered a medical emergency while driving. He was taken to a local hospital where he died. Two passengers in Smith’s vehicle were not injured.
