Suspect in Custody After Firing Shots Near Joplin High

A male suspect is in custody after firing shots near Joplin High School Monday afternoon.

At 5:09 p.m., police received reports of a man in the roadway with a gun near 23rd and Grand Avenue. Captain Trevor Duncan says shots were fired and people began running in that area. Officers detained several people before arresting a male suspect for firing shots. No one was injured from the shooting and another person was arrested for interfering with the investigation. Identities have not been released as the investigation continues at this moment.

Duncan does tell us that one man was taken to a local hospital with injuries from an assault related to the incident.
