Josh Hawley Speaks at Joplin VFW

Missouri US Attorney General and Senate candidate Josh Hawley visited the Joplin VFW Monday afternoon as the general election sits just two weeks away (11/06) as he looks to garner more votes than incumbent senator Claire McCaskill.

“This is the election that’s going to decide the control of the United States Senate. It really is going to come down to the people of this state and this region could decide how the whole state votes,” said Hawley. “You see what the liberal democrat agenda is in the Kavanaugh smear campaign. It was a planned coordinated smear campaign that was really an attempt to prevent President Trump from putting a conservative justice on the bench. It was about power and it was about turning back the results of the 2016 election. Now you’ve got these liberal mobs that Hillary Clinton and Eric Holder are encouraging. This is not what America is. We don’t have rule by the mob, we have rule by we the people, and that’s what this election is going to be about.”

Hawley touched on a number of topics including pre-existing conditions. “I am 100% dedicated to seeing that insurance companies are required to cover pre-existing conditions like my son but I wanna do it apart from Obamacare. I don’t think we should hold anyone hostage, and certainly those with pre-existing conditions, to Obamacare. It has forced healthcare costs up in the state up by as much 145% for folks who have to buy their healthcare on the exchange. It just isn’t sustainable. We have to make sure that folks can get high quality insurance with good access to doctors at affordable prices. That’s what I’m for.”

He also spoke on the trade war with China. “I prefer we not be in a trade war but look China has been trying to rip us off, rip off our consumers, small business and farmers for years now so I am for winning the trade war. I think Trump’s new deals with Canada and Mexico are a great step forward. We need to continue to keep the pressure up and get free trade and open trade on terms that are good for our workers and our farmers.”

Hawley addressed the migrant caravan making it’s way towards the U.S. Southern border and his views on protecting that border. “My opponent is currently sponsoring a bill to open our borders. Can you imagine if we let people just stream across the border?” That is exactly what’s gotten us into this mess.”

Hawley also says he has supported tax cuts for the middle class while McCaskill has voted “200 times to raise taxes while she’s been in Congress. She has not voted once for a middle class tax cut, not once.”

The VFW tells us that they contacted Claire McCaskill for a visit but that she did not respond to their calls.
