Joplin Area Habitat For Humanity, the Independent Living Center and Thrivent Financial are teaming up to build a unique home in Joplin. It’s for Travis Vene, who is paralyzed from the waist down. Stephanie Brady with the Independent Living Center tells News Talk KZRG this home will surpass standards from the Americans With Disabilities Act.
“It has zero grade entry, it has roll-under sinks that makes it much more accessible for somebody who utilizes a wheelchair.”
Vene describes the features he likes. “Lower cabinets, higher outlets, things like that, roll-in showers with a chair that folds down so I can transfer out of my chair to get into it.”
Vene says he and his family have been blessed to be getting this new home. You can see photos from Tuesday’s (5/10) wall raising ceremony in the photo section at NewsTalkKZRG.com.
