Joplin Man Starts 5 Car Pileup

A five-car pileup near Springfield is started by a Joplin man last night.

Tommy Stark was on Highway 60 about a quarter-mile from the city limits when a sudden dowpour forced traffic to quickly slow down. He couldn't stop in time and rear-ended the car in front of him, causing that vehicle to sideswipe another car and rear-end the next car, who then rearended the car in front of her.

Stark wasn't hurt, but his Ford had to be towed away.

No major injuries were reported in the pileup.
