Runners Raise Money for Tornado Rebuilding

Another family will be able to go home thanks to a $30,000 donation to Rebuild Joplin by Active Lifestyle Events, an organization that promotes healthy living throughout the community. President Audie Dennis tells News Talk KZRG how they were able to raise the funds.

"Through the Joplin Memorial Run we were able that the 161 people that we lost in the tornado are never forgotten. Each year we gather together to remember them, to run, so the proceeds go to Rebuild Joplin."

More than 2,600 people participated in this years race to raise the funds. Rebuild Joplin's Thomas Corley says they'll even be able to get that money matched.

"So it's going to be matched with private donations, so volunteers and other sponsors that have given us dollars that are unrestricted."

To date, 136 homes have been repaired or rebuilt by the organization. They hope to finish 43 more by the end of the year.
