Monday was an exciting day for the Joplin School District and Western Governors University. The district partnered with the university to provide more opportunities to their staff. Teachers, and staff who are interested in furthering their education can take online courses to attain either a bachelor or masters degree. Superintendent Dr. CJ Huff tells News Talk KZRG the advantages of the university.
"This gives them the flexability to continue working during the day, and then take online classes at night to get them to where they need to be, and the cost is very reasonable as well."
The online university also happens to be ranked number one in the nation for offering the best secondary training program. Chancellor Dr. Angie Bessendorfer says there's been quite a bit of buzz around the program.
"There's a lot of attention. The fact of the matter from leaving Joplin Schools has brought a lot of awareness to WGU, and so there are more and more folks who belong to Joplin Schools who can take advantage of WGU as a way they can forward their careers."
The average tuition is $6,000 a year, with an additional 5% discount for Joplin staff.
