Children's Author Visits Joplin to Promote Tornado Book

A children's book based on the May 2011 tornado that hit Joplin will be the focus at the Joplin Public Library tonight. Carolyn Mueller, author of "Lily: A True Story of Courage & the Joplin Tornado," tells News Talk KZRG it was tough to make a children's book out of the storm.

"I wrote an article for adults that included all of the details, for everything, and then I just kind of whittled it down."

The book follows the true story of a rescue dog and her owner who helped find missing and trapped people after the storm:

"The book tells the story of Tara and her trained rescue dog, Lily. After the tornado they were able to go out and search for people who were hurt, or missing, or lost."

Tonight's author showcase is from 6 to 7:30 at the Joplin Public Library at 3rd and Main. You can find the book anywhere books are sold in Joplin, as well as on Amazon.com.
