Local Doctors Brace for Potential Medicare Cuts

Lawmakers in Washington are expected to try and get a temporary fix passed soon to avert incoming Medicare cuts for doctors. Dr. Ed Conrad of Joplin tells News Talk KZRG he's seeing less and less reimbursement from Medicare.

"We're just basically getting by, while watching those Medicare payments and reimbursements for our patients just keep dwindling. Even some of my patients have remarked on how surprised they are at all of the write-offs."

Conrad says 50% to 60% of his patients use Medicare.

If Congress doesn't pass a delay by April 1st, Doctors will see a 24% cut in how much they're paid by Medicare for their services, while hospitals will see a significantly less cut of only 2%.
