$47, 747. That's how much Carl Junction Postmaster Sharon Clark was able to sell in Breast Cancer Awareness Stamps last month. She was emotional and almost at a loss for words when she she told News Talk KZRG how proud she was.
"Blown away, amazed, and so proud that a community this small can be number one on the nation. The main thing that I'm most proud of is how much money we've raised for research, maybe we have saved one life."
Clark set a big goal for herself and never believed she would end up setting a national record.
"My goal was $25,000. Of course I always wanted to be number one, but I just never believed this small of a town could do it. It's not that I didn't believe in Carl Junction, it's just, how do you compete against Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, Texas?"
Her post office beat out all of those major cities in stamp sales. The only other post office to come close was in Gulf Port, Mississippi; they made $34,000 in stamp sales.
