By now you should know to keep chocolate away from your pet, but that's not the only Halloween treat you'll want to keep out of reach. Dr. Ben Leavens of Main Street Pet Care in Joplin tells News Talk KZRG which candies to avoid if you have a pet in the home.
"There are several things in addition to chocolate that can be dangerous. Most dangerous is sugar-free candy, you should absolutely keep that away from your pet. It can prove to be fatal."
The artificial sweeteners in those candies can cause liver failure in animals. If you catch your pet in the candy bowl, Leavens says you should call a vet or the Pet Poison Hotline at 800-213-6680 immediately.
