MO Officials Want All Citizens Counted in 2010 Census

ST. LOUIS (AP) City leaders are encouraging Missourians to be counted in the 2010 U.S. Census, fearing that any undercount could hurt their chances for federal funding.

Most have been drilling the importance of participation for weeks, holding news conferences and using social media tools to get the word out.

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said Monday the failure of one individual to submit a Census form is equal to $1,300 in lost revenue per year.

St. Louis is reaching out to its large refugee population. Kansas City is targeting those who typically are hard to reach. Springfield is making an extra push to count college students.

Census forms are scheduled to arrive in homes this week.
