The Missouri State Board of Education has chosen a new education commissioner. Assistant commissioner Margaret Vandeven was promoted Wednesday (12/17). She'll replace Chris Nicastro, who is retiring at year's end. Joplin School Superintendent Dr. CJ Huff was one of five finalists for the job. News Talk KZRG has reached out to Dr. Huff for comment.
The flu is making the rounds again...a little earlier than usual. Last week attendance in the Carl Junction School District's elementary buildings was in the 80 percent range. Normal attendance is about 95 percent. Carl Junction Superintendent Dr. Phil Cook tells News Talk KZRG parents should check if their child has a fever.
"We ask parents that if a student has a fever, please keep them at home. If you send them to school, they're not going to feel like learning anyway, and it's going to expose other students (to the flu)."
Cook says all the Carl Junction school buildings will be disinfected during the Christmas holiday break.
