Before the new Joplin City Council is sworn in Monday night, there was time for a little sparring Saturday morning. Veteran Councilwoman, Melodee Colbert-Kean and Councilman-Elect, Taylor Brown, battled in a friendly ping pong match Saturday morning at Memorial Hall. It was part of the Spring Classic 2016 Ping Pong Tournament matches hosted by the Joplin Table Tennis Club.

Colbert-Kean tells News Talk KZRG that she looks forward to working with her ping pong challenger.

“Come Monday, we’re going to be swearing in a couple new council members and we’re looking forward to working together.”

Brown tells News Talk KZRG that he had fun with the game but more importantly he looks forward to working with her.

“When we get on to city issues, I’m excited to learn from her and learn from her expertise.”

The two had fun playing ping pong and look forward to getting to work Monday night. The rookie, Taylor Brown won the match
